Volunteer Coordinator
21 hours/ week; some weekends and evenings/ flexibility required. Contract term August 23, 2010 to March 31, 2011.

The Alliance for South Asian AIDS Prevention is a community-based, charitable organization committed to providing health promotion, support, education and advocacy in a non-discriminatory manner for those who identify as South Asian living with and affected by HIV/AIDS. 
ASAAP is seeking a Volunteer Coordinator (21 hours per week) to screen, recruit, train, develop and manage volunteers and work as part of the ASAAP staff team.  This position reports to the Executive Director.
Duties Include:
  • Screen volunteer applications & interview volunteer candidates as needed
  • Facilitate at least 2 volunteer orientation sessions and one project specific training  annually
  • Develop and maintain computerized volunteer database, volunteer contact list and volunteer hours
  • Support volunteer activities in all areas of ASAAP’s work such as prevention education, PHA support, website maintenance, media, fundraising, special events and community outreach
  • Plan and implement volunteer outreach and volunteer recognition activities
  • Support with developing and distributing the bi-monthly volunteer newsletter
  • Coordinate volunteer-based activities and outreach sessions including monthly condom stuffing nites
  • Plan and facilitate quarterly Volunteer Project Advisory Committee meetings
  • Liaise effectively and regularly with community-based organizations and volunteer organizations such as Volunteer Toronto to enhance volunteer recruitment, training and retention
  • Monitor and evaluate Vounteer program on a regular basis
  • Coordinate Volunteer recruitment and engagement as per funder requirements
  • Develop volunteer resources and update “volunteer” web link on a regular basis
  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director including proposal writing/grant writing etc.
  • Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated commitment to working within an anti-oppressive framework particularly around issues of race, gender and sexuality
  • Understanding of issues related to HIV & AIDS
  • Previous experience in volunteer planning, development and evaluation
  • Previous experience in volunteer coordination, including adult education
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative, sound judgment, discretion and tact
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Computer literate, including proficiency in MS Office applications
  • Skills and experience in volunteer recruitment, training, program planning and management
  • In addition to excellent oral and written English language skills, the ability to communicate in one or more South Asian languages is a strong asset
  • Union: Unionized position, member of CUPE local 3697-05
    Compensation Type: Hourly, 21 hours per week at $18.48 per hour.
