A night honouring the first ever recipient of the Kalpesh Oza Award for community leadership in the field of HIV/AIDS; offering beautiful displays of donated books, beauty products, jewelry, art, chocolate sensations and more in the Silent Auction room; satiating over 140 guests with a fabulous three-course dinner and performances by a talented lineup of artists at ASAAP’s 2012 gala fundraiser, The Sweetest Taboo.
The event was held at Lula Lounge, one of Toronto’s liveliest event venues, located in the west end of town.
With NAACH Radio personality Waseem Shaikh as the witty emcee of the evening, guests were treated to a cornucopia of sweet sensations that included the vocal genius of Anusha Sharma as she sang songs in Hindi and Tamil, a poetically provocative dance-theatre duet by Nisha Ahuja and Rehana Tejpar, and a Bollywood-meets-zen bop and boogie by self-taught dancer Changu Changezi. The highlight of the night was the positive support from ASAAP’s community of friends, family, partners, staff and volunteers who shared in this special night and donated their time, services or resources to making the event a success.
ASAAP surpassed its fundraising goal, raising close to $6,000, allowing the agency more room to continue providing support and care to South Asians living with HIV/AIDS.
Stay tuned for the buzz on next year’s Taboo. It might be even sweeter.
